How Does A Homemade Solar Power System Work?

Solar panels, also called PV panels contain the material silicon. When the silicon is exposed to sunlight, it then becomes electrically charged. To ensure proper exposure to the sun is achieved, placement in the direction that the solar panels are positioned is very important.

For the installation of a homemade solar power system you will need not only the solar panels, but also you will need an inverter, a DC battery, and a charge converter.

The DC power that the inverter needs is provided from the battery, and then it is converted to AC voltage. Normally these homemade solar power systems provide 120-voltages. If you require a higher voltage, you will either need to use two identical inverters, or add a transformer.

If the system receives at least 6 hours of sunlight per day, the panels will provide as much as 350 watt-hours of power.
